12 | There was a George Spence, publican, son of George and Jane, who died at Clunes in Victoria in 1890. At first glance this information would seem to fit, especially as George's brother Thomas was also a publican in the area. However, the death certificate for George Spence who died in 1890 indicates that he was born in Crook, Durham, England which conflicts with the information known about George, brother of Thomas and Ann. Further research is needed to confirm or disprove that the two men are the same person. | Spence, George (I2308)

29 | "An inquest was held by Dr. Clendinning at the White Hart Hotel, on Wednesday, on the body of George Lee, aged 33, a native of Shropshire, who died in the Hospital on Tuesday. It appears from the evidence that deceased was a blacksmith, and was working at the foundry of Messrs R. Carter &.Co. On the 10th October he was working at an iron shaft weighing 21cwt., which was slung in a crane in the usual manner. After some time it was found that an additional S-link was required in the suspending chain, and deceased made one of five-eights iron, although he was warned several times that it would not carry the weight. After working four or five hours longer the shaft fell and broke his leg and he was taken to the Hospital, where amputation was performed on 18th October. Sloughing and fever however, set in and caused death, and the jury returned a verdict in accordance with the facts as here given." | Lee, George (I252)

N.B. after each alphabetical section in the transcriptions there is a section of "inconnu" (strangers) names beginning with that letter. These appear to be marriages where one or both partners were not resident in the parish." Source Type: Transcript online | Source (S1836)
